Photography >> Books We Recommend

Books and magazines are a valuable resource when it comes to learning more about photography, travel, birds, animals, life on the road, and more. We have sorted out a wide variety of books that have served us well and that we highly recommend to help you learn more about nature photography and travel.

When we find new books or collections, we’ll let you know here, helping you to expand your library of books on nature photography, travel, wildlife, travel photography, bird photography, and the study of all things natural, and occassionally “unnatural”.

Learning to travel light, we have now expanded our library to include books in digital form and we will be reviewing and discussing these, as well.

Best Nature Photographers Books

Inspiration is an amazing thing. It can come from anywhere. From a song or sound heard, a story told, a memory shared...but for us, much of our inspiration comes from books. We seek them out when we need to see how things have been done before, and to plan how we will do them better. We have a wide range of books we refer to that help us with our inspiration, and these are our recommendations.

Nature Photography and Photography Magazines

Magazines are a tremendous resource, not just because of the articles and resources they provide, but for their perspective and predicitons on fads and fashions. Magazines speak for the people and about the people. A book is published and it either makes it or breaks it, but it is a one time effort per book. A magazine must sing to the choir repeatedly month after month, attracting readers and deperately hanging on to them over and over and over again. Few magazines make it to "success", defined as lasting more than five years. If they last longer, then they are worth investing in and reading.

Examine magazines for their inspiration, but also go through them and look for trends. We have a few to recommend to you for serious consideration.

Regional Travel and Wildlife Guide Books

Traveling and writing about our travels, we've found some amazing books about various regions, the wildlife, habitat, and natural environment for our nature photography. Many of these books help you find the wildlife and understand how to get close for nature and wildlife photography, while others give you indepth views of the natural areas of these places. This is just the tip of the ice berg on regional travel books and we'll be adding more as we go. Enjoy!
